This is very exciting – we’ve been testing my first attempt, and I’m loving the results so far.
As far as I can tell, only two companies in South Africa are working with spicules – and both are doing quite intense peels. Quite a few spas offer it as a treatment as well – about R1500 for a mask/scrub. We’re taking a different approach for home use: gentler, more nourishing, and designed to be used once or twice a week and left on your skin overnight for best results.

But what are they?!
Spicules are a cutting-edge liquid exfoliator powered by bioactive freshwater sponges. These are microscopic silicate needles that create controlled micro-stimulation within the epidermis. These naturally derived silicate structures act as liquid microneedles, creating microchannels in the skin to promote cellular renewal, accelerate keratinocyte turnover, and improve overall skin tone and texture. They work over 24–72 hours as they gradually dissolve, stimulating the skin from within.
Our formulation includes a carefully balanced blend of Salicylic Acid to unclog pores, Glycolic Acid to improve texture and brighten by exfoliating and reducing scarring, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. Allantoin to soothe and soften, Aloe Vera for hydration and calming, Vitamin B5 to support skin repair, and Rose Water and Frankincense Hydrosol to tone, refresh, and rejuvenate the skin.
